Auto Shanghai: Luxury cars aim for Chinese market

Rolls-Royce has launched an extended wheelbase model of its Ghost sedan at Auto Shanghai, joining several other upmarket brands with new products on display at the show.

The Ghost Extended Wheelbase is designed for users who require even more room from the luxury marque’s massive Ghost sedan and is expected to be popular with the ever-increasing number of wealthy buyers in China.

The addition of 170mm to the car’s wheelbase has significantly enhanced the legroom, says Rolls-Royce,making it ideal for those looking to use it as a chauffeur vehicle.

Produced to order and with a limited number available until it enters full production next year, the Ghost Extended Wheelbase will be priced from 5.118 million yuan (RM2.387 million) in China, currently Rolls-Royce’s second-largest market.

The new Ghost isn’t the only option for wealthy buyers at the show, however.

Maserati is showing off its new GranTurismo MC Stradale, saying that its Asian debut so soon after the global debut in March is indicative of China’s growing importance to the Modena-based Italian luxury company.

Ferrari’s new FF is also on show,as the Lamborghini Aventador, which was also released last month at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland.

Auto Shanghai runs April 21-28 in Shanghai,China.
